Tuscaloosa Rocketry
Challenge

Through the UA Honors College, I had the privilege of going to middle schools in the area of Tuscaloosa and volunteer. In this experience, we spent one day teaching students throughout the day about space exploration and history, we spent two days building bottle rockets with the students, and finally at the end of the week we would have a launch competition for all groups (as photographed). This program enabled young students to engage with school more and find a stronger passion for learning.

LIFT Program

In the Fall of 2022 I was given the opportunity to work in Eutaw, Alabama to teach individuals in underserved communities how to use computers and computer programs. This included--but was not limited to--teaching the basic uses of Microsoft applications, typing lessons, and how to use the search engine Google. These individuals lacked the education and experience necessary to work with programs that the average American takes for granted, and this experience furthered my passion to help underserved communities.

LIFT Program

In the Spring of 2023, I worked as a tutor at Wylam Middle School, and as a volunteer at the food pantry next-door. At the school, I was able to build relationships with the students, and would work with them on their mathwork after school once a week, which also served as an aftercare for the students. At the food pantry, we helped organize and package food and essentials to be distributed to the community.
